    [ 19.01.2010 ] The Statement Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the 20th Anniversary of the Tragedy of January 20, 1990.
    As the years have passed since January 20 different aspects, the essence of that bloody event, identity and the aims of the perpetrators become much clearer. 20 years have passed since the terrible day which was the part of the genocide policy of Soviet Empire against Azerbaijan, resulted in gross violation of human rights and freedoms and remained in the history as 20 January tragedy. This tragedy which was one of the most terrible acts of violence, inhuman treatment and torture committed against humanity in the XX century engraved in memory of our nation forever.

    Protection of human rights is one of the issues that worry the civilization. Merciless and unprecedented torture committed during the World War II gave impulse to the progressive countries to determine the universal criterion of justice in the postwar period. The adoption of the United Nations (UN) Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) in 1948 enabled development of the international human rights Law along with being a legal basis for determination of the mentioned criterion and adoption of new conventions.

    [ 31.03.2008 ] STATEMENTof the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the Occasion of 31 March – the Day of Genocide against Azerbaijanis
    The genocide and purposeful deportation policy of Armenian nationalists and their supporters against the Azerbaijanis conducted over XIX-XX centuries were engraved in the Azerbaijani history as sorrowful pages. The aim of this repulsive policy was to evict the Azerbaijanis from their historical lands, and to create on this territory the so called state of “Great Armenia”, following the falsified concept of the Armenian historians and ideologists. In order to realise this plan, compliant with the concerns of some states, numerous organisational, ideological, military events were held and different means were used.
