On February 7, 2008, Ombudsman Elmira Suleymanova received UN resident-coordinator in Azerbaijan Mr. Bruno Pouezat.
Ombudsman noted the leading role of the UN in
the international community and expedient works carried out for the
establishment of a peace and democratic values. She also informed about
projects jointly implemented with the UN bodies.
E. Suleymanova pointed out that 18th of
June will be marked for the first time as a Day of Human Rights in
Azerbaijan. She said that it was scheduled to organize international
conference on this occasion as well as 60th anniversary of Declaration
on Human Rights and made some proposals on future cooperation.
Noting that the current year is the 20th anniversary
of Armenian aggression against Azerbaijan, Ombudsman informed on the
conference “Women and children in war and conflict situation” to be
organized in connection with these painful events.
The guest expressed his preparedness in the
collaboration with Ombudsman’s Office and said that they will render
assistance by the support of international donors.
Expressing his deep gratitude for cordial reception,
Mr. Pouezat underlined effective activity of the Ombudsman in the
fields of human rights. He said that Organization, which he represents,
attaches a great importance to the cooperation with the Commissioner on
promotion and protection of human rights.
